What can each access level do?
The client sets your access, and only the client can change it. They can raise it, lower it, or remove you any time. What each level lets you do:
| Level | Read the plan | Edit and save the plan | Record actuals | See raw cashflow |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| View only | Yes | No (modelling only) | No | If shared by the client |
| Can edit plan | Yes | Yes | No | If shared by the client |
| Full access | Yes | Yes | Yes | Always |
Applies at every level
What does each level feel like?
View only: the scratch pad
Every screen and chart is open, and forms stay editable for live modelling, but nothing saves. Changes vanish the moment you leave, switch plans, or sign out.
The what-if banner reads “What-if · this client’s plan stays unchanged”, with Compare and Discard actions and no Apply button. The Plans list has no create, rename, duplicate or delete on View only.
Can edit plan: the full planning partner
Everything View only gives you, and now your edits save: fill in the planning screens and commit a replan (see Working in a client’s plan). In the what-if sandbox, you get an Apply button, so a what-if can be committed.
Full access: everything, including the client’s day-to-day
All of Can edit plan, plus you can record real numbers for them, and you always see their spending.
Full access is also what lets you act on the client’s imported data. You can import statements, correct categories (including rules for similar and future merchants), unpair a transfer that was matched wrongly, and answer or dismiss the questions Perfingo asks about holdings after a brokerage import. On View only and Can edit plan, these are read-only.
With Full access you can log balances and add holdings directly, the same as the client can.
Recording real numbers: same rule, two places
Add, log and delete buttons only appear on Full access. On View only or Can edit plan, the same screen is read-only: you see the numbers, you can’t change them.
| Screen | On Full access | On a read-only seat |
|---|---|---|
| Cashflow, Accounts card | “Add account”, an edit and a delete icon on each account, and “Sync to tracking” | Each account’s name and balance only |
| Tracking, Holdings card | “Add holding”, “Set aside cash”, and an edit icon on each holding | Each holding’s name and value only |
Why are some buttons missing but some data explained?
Writes are hidden; reads are explained.
Actions your level doesn’t allow are not shown at all
Not greyed out, not disabled with a lock icon, just absent. You won’t see a Delete button you can’t press, or a Save action that would only fail. On View only the sandbox has no Apply button. One level up, on Can edit plan, Apply appears.
Data you can’t see is explained, never faked
If cashflow sharing is off, you see a clear notice, never a misleading “No transactions this month” (which looks like the client has none) or a false “Add your first account” prompt (which looks like nothing exists, when it does and you just can’t see it). The same goes for the client’s Home in an advisor session: the gap is explained, not hidden.
What does the client see on their side?
The client changes your level, turns cashflow sharing on or off, or removes you from their Profile. Their steps are in Advisor access for clients. Nothing you do inside the app can widen your own access.
